This practicum has a rolling open enrollment until all spots are filled. A virtual Start-up Session will be held September 15th 8:30 - 11:30. Five additional implementation meetings will be scheduled after-school throughout the year long implementation.
The WRS Level I Certification program is designed to prepare teachers to effectively implement Steps 1-6 of the Wilson Reading System with students reading and spelling below grade level and those diagnosed with language based learning disabilities. Participants will demonstrate mastery of the Wilson Reading System or WRS lesson plan, including multisensory techniques and effective strategies in a 1:1 setting. Certification provides extensive professional learning and support enabling teachers to effectively implement the program with fidelity. Certification includes approximately 90 hours of online instruction, a 65-lesson practicum including demonstrations, five observations, and feedback from a Wilson® Credentialed Trainer. This path to Wilson Reading System (WRS) Level I Certification involves online coursework and live, web practicum observations with a Wilson® Credentialed Trainer. Participants should be comfortable with the use of computers. Registration: Please carefully review the WRS Level I Certification information, Web-Based Practicum requirements, and Technical Requirements prior to registration, as the commitment is considerable. It is highly recommended that you have a practicum student in mind who appears to fit the selection criteria. PREREQUISITE: Along with a Bachelor's degree in Education or related field, participants must have completed the WRS Introductory Course within the last 5 years. Participants will need to administer the WIST test kit for pre/post-testing practicum student requirements and an additional standardized normed reading test with subtest that compare word attack to comprehension skills. All WRS Level I participants need to have WRS 4th Ed. materials to use during this course available at WilsonLanguage.com. CANCELLATION POLICY: *Cancellation less than 14 days prior to the course start up date: $250 drop fee to be paid by the participant *Cancellation after 30 days (after the course start-up): full course cost will be due, paid by the participant ($2,750 for members/$3,000 for non-members) Eligible participants from nonpublic schools in Montgomery County may be eligible to attend through federal funding. This council is for school district Federal Programs Coordinators and district level leadership staff members with similar roles. Meetings include an opportunity to discuss programmatic and managerial topics surrounding federally funded programs (Title funds) with PDE regional representatives.Â

The brain is just as important as the eyes when it comes to seeing. Many vision problems are caused by areas of the brain that are needed for sight not working properly and cannot be resolved by wearing glasses. Until recently, a brain-related visual impairment was thought to be rare. According to new research, on average, every class of 30 children would have one or two children with at least one brain-related visual problem. In this course, you will learn about Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) and gain a deeper understanding of its impact on learning. You will explore strategies to reduce barriers for learners, especially those with brain-based visual impairments.
